Iran can tap Saudi Arabia's promising market: Businessman

Tehran, IRNA – Saudi Arabia’s economic development projects could create a promising trade market for countries like Iran mainly because they can supply a wide variety of products to Saudi developers and contractors, according to Chairmain of Iran-Qatar Joint Chamber of Commerce Adnan Mousapour.

Mousapour said on Thursday that Saudi Arabia has taken huge steps to develop its economy as it competes with countries like Qatar and the United Arab Emirates in this regard.

He explained that the development projects the kingdom has launched in recent years are enough for Iran to play a key role in the Saudi market, adding that the two countries can cooperate in other fields following the restoration of their diplomatic ties.

Trade exchanges between Iran and Saudi Arabia stood at nearly $800 million at the peak of their economic ties before they cut diplomatic relations in 2016, Mousapour said, adding that the figure could reach $2-3 billion with the ties between the two sides resuming.

In addition, he said, Saudi Arabia has been seeking in recent years to reduce dependence on oil revenues and focus on tourism, which requires the kingdom to have good political ties with other countries. This is good news for Iranian and Saudi businesses, said the businessmen.

Iran and Saudi Arabia, two key players in the West Asia region, agreed to restore their diplomatic ties after more than seven years under a deal brokered by China in March 2023.
